With Hearing protection, custom made protector moulds can protect the ear better than generic disposable earplugs.
Generic earplugs only provide up to 25% of the noise reduction expected!
Devices made with a custom earmould provide comfort, as you can forget you are wearing them. They also don't put any additional pressure on sensitive skin.
Long term exposure to noise over 85dB can damage one's hearing. This damage is typically irreversible when it has occured.
Custom-made earpieces can be made for several requirements. They can form an effective seal against noise and water.
To take an ear mould impression. We perform an examination of the ear to make sure the outer ear canal is clear of debris, wax or abnormalities. We may also take a brief medical history to ensure the procedure is safe for the client.
A foam sponge or plug is placed within the ear-canal to protect and cover up the ear-drum. This will prevent the impression material going too far down the ear canal.
Sometimes you may be asked to bite on a block, to obtain the shape of your ear when your jaw is opened. Needed for tight-fitting moulds and often with swimming plugs.
We mix up the base and catalyst ear impression material. This is silicone based. Then fill up a tube (very similar to a cake piping syringe!) with both components and insert into your ear-canal.
This typically takes about 2-4 minutes to harden. The result being the shape or ear mould impression of your ear.
This ear mould will be used to make any of the custom ear products below.
